U.S. Representatives Troy Balderson and Harriet Hageman have introduced a bill aimed at making permanent an executive order by former President Donald Trump. The legislation seeks to prevent state or local governments from enforcing laws that could hinder U.S. energy production, increase energy costs, or violate the Constitution.

Balderson emphasized the potential impact on Ohio families and national energy security if progressive states continue their current policies. “If left unchecked, progressive states’ war on American energy will drive up costs for Ohio families and jeopardize our nation’s energy security,” he stated. He praised Trump’s executive order for defending American energy.

Hageman expressed concern over policies she described as radical, which she believes threaten national grid reliability and affordability. “America’s energy producers are under assault by radical state and local policies that undermine national grid reliability and energy affordability,” she said.

The executive order issued by Trump on April 8, 2025, instructs the Attorney General to review any state or local laws interfering with domestic energy development. Should these laws be deemed unconstitutional or illegal, action must be taken to halt their enforcement.
