State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) has called on Governor Mike DeWine to declare a disaster in Fairfield County following severe flooding that occurred during the weekend of July 26-27. In a letter sent to the governor, Schaffer highlighted the impact of the flooding on residents and businesses in the area.

“As the State Senator for Fairfield County, I feel that it is my duty to do everything possible to provide assistance to those individuals, families, and businesses in need,” Schaffer wrote. “State disaster assistance could go a long way in bridging the gap for those Ohioans as they work to recover and rebuild their property and lives.”

The request follows an emergency declaration made by Fairfield County Commissioners and Greenfield Township Trustees on July 29. Local officials reported that roadways and culverts were washed out, with homes and businesses sustaining significant damage throughout the county.

“Declaring a disaster and activating the State Disaster Relief Program for Fairfield County would unlock critical funding for local governments, individuals, and businesses that have been ravaged by flood waters and are struggling to recover,” Schaffer stated. “As recovery continues to unfold in Fairfield County, I encourage residents to report any damage to the Fairfield County Emergency Management Agency.”

Residents affected by the flooding can contact the Fairfield County Emergency Management Agency at 740-654-4357 or through its website at fairfieldema.com. Those seeking updates on state disaster assistance may also reach out to Senator Schaffer’s office at 614-466-8076 or via email at sd20@ohiosenate.gov.
