Introducing Scholastic Watch & Learn Library!

5

Pickerington Public Library recently issued the following announcement.

Move over, YouTube! There’s a new video hub in town, and Pickerington Public Library cardholders have front-row seats. Geared toward preschool through 3rd grade, Scholastic Watch & Learn Library provides 1- to 2-minute videos that feature real-world footage about science, social studies, and language arts. Extra features include quizzes, vocabulary previews, and think sheets to promote comprehension.

The early childhood experts at Scholastic have compiled research to show the potential benefits of using Watch & Learn Library. Students can improve vocabulary and comprehension, as well as gain important background knowledge about a topic. This, in turn, can make it easier to commit new information to memory.

Videos also cover social-emotional competencies: Social and attention skills, self-awareness, kindness, inclusiveness, manners, and friendships have all suffered during the pandemic. By building and strengthening social-emotional skills, kids are more likely to succeed in the transition from preschool to elementary school.

Watch & Learn is also a great resource for English language learners. Videos offer an additional way of accessing information a person might not have the language proficiency to understand. Repetition, review, and practice are also effective techniques the resource provides.

Watch & Learn Library has a simple, easy-to-use interface with no ads. Take a look by going to the library’s E-Branch and scrolling until you find Scholastic Watch & Learn Library. Enter your library card number and watch away!
