On Friday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team downed Ohio University, 3-0. This takes the RedHawks to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in Mid-American Conference play on the season and drops the Bobcats to 3-2, 0-1 MAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a back-and-forth first quarter, the score remained 0-0.
- Paula Peña Martinez got the RedHawks started under a minute into the second quarter, scoring the first goal during a penalty corner. She was assisted by Kennedy Vinson and Claudia Negrete Garcia.
- Peña Martinez scored again with 1:38 left in the second quarter, taking the RedHawks lead to 2-0 through the end of the first half.
- The 2-0 score remained unchanged through the end of the third quarter. The RedHawks outshot the Bobcats 10-3.
- With just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Negrete Garcia scored during a penalty corner, taking the RedHawks lead to 3-0. She was assisted by Paula Navarro.
- The RedHawks held their lead through the end of the competition, winning 3-0.

Miami returns to the field Saturday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. to face Fairfield University in Oxford, Ohio.
