Red Savage Named to U.S. National Junior Team
Miami University forward Red Savage was selected to the 2023 U.S. National Junior Team, USA Hockey announced today. Savage is one of 25 players named to the roster that will travel to Canada at the conclusion of this week's training camp, and will serve as one of the team's alternate captains. The Americans are preparing for the IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2022 - Jan. 5, 2023 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick. The United States will face off against Finland Monday, Dec. 19 and against Sweden Wednesday, Dec. 21 in exhibition games before the tournament gets underway. Every Team USA game at the World Juniors will be broadcast on NHL Network.
Savage represented his country in August 2022 in the most recent World Juniors, producing two goals and an assist in five games. He previously played with the U.S. National Development Program, participated on the U17 and U18 National Teams, and represented Team USA at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2019.
The Detroit Red Wings draftee (2021, fourth round) has four goals and six assists in 16 appearances for the RedHawks this year, building on a solid debut season that saw him produce 16 points (6-10-16) and earn NCHC Rookie of the Week honors a league-high four times.
