Jeff Lomonico to Become Pickerington Central’s New Head Football Coach | Pickerington Schools
Pickerington Schools is pleased to announce that Jeff Lomonico will become the new head coach for the Pickerington High School Central Tigers Football Team, pending board of education approval at their January 9 meeting.
“The majority of the football staff will stay in place and I hope for a seamless transition of the coaching roles,” said Lomonico.
Coaching alongside retiring Coach Jay Sharrett for years, Lomonico served as the Tigers’ defensive line coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2003. He graduated from Central in 1987 and played football at Ohio University from 1988-1992. Lomonico has taught in the district for 25 years and has been a football coach for 30 years. He’s married to Erika Lomonico, who is an assistant principal at Toll Gate Elementary. They have 2 sons, Max and Jack, who both graduated from Pickerington Central.
With his proven record of dedication and passion for Tigers football, Lomonico has been preparing for his new role for years. There’s no doubt that Coach Sharrett leaves behind an incredible legacy, but Lomonico says he’s ready and excited to take on the challenge.
“I am excited for the opportunity to become the head coach and to continue the rich tradition of Tiger football that Coach Sharrett has laid the groundwork for,” said Lomonico.
Coach Sharrett will officially retire from the school district at the end of February after serving as a government teacher and social studies department chair at Central. He became Central’s head football coach in 2003. Under Sharrett, the Tigers went 211-42 with 17 league championships, eight regional titles and Division I state championships in 2017 and 2019.
