Miami Swimmers Compete at Pro Swim Series

Members of the Miami University swimming team traveled to compete at the TYR Pro Swim Series Knoxville, which took place between Wednesday, Jan. 11, and Saturday, Jan. 14, in Knoxville, Tenn. Four swimmers from the RedHawks qualified for finals competition across the four days, with the remainder appearing in preliminary events. 

How It Happened:

  • Tommy Frye kicked off the trip for Miami, placing 25th in the men's 800 freestyle with a time of 8:45.75.
  • In finals for Thursday, Adrian Dulay finished 18th in the men's 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.82. Also for the men's team, Zach Bann finished 22nd in the 400 IM with a time of 4:45.02, while Emily Rinker represented the RedHawks' women's team in the 400 IM, finishing 21st with a time of 5:09.37.
  • Friday's finals had appearances from Dulay and Frye, with Dulay earning 15th in the men's 200 breaststroke (2:22.90) and Frye earning 22nd in the men's 200 butterfly (2:07.25).
  • The last day of the series had Dulay, Frye and Bann qualifying for finals. Dulay placed 15th in the men's 50 breaststroke (29.48), Frye placed 20th in the men's 1500 freestyle (16:37.36) and Bann placed 20th in the men's 200 backstroke (2:08.98).
  • Preliminary performance on Thursday had Owen Blazer competing in two events, finishing 28th in the men's 50 backstroke (27.23) and 72nd in the men's 100 butterfly (1:00.29). Also in the 100 butterfly was Fitz Miller, who finished 62nd (58.07). Greta Kolbeck represented the women's team in the 200 freestyle, finishing 29th (2:05.06).
  • In Friday's prelims, Blazer earned 36th in the men's 100 backstroke (59.55) and 58th in the men's 50 butterfly (26.80). Bann also competed in the 100 backstroke, earning 38th (59.66), as did Miller in the 50 butterfly, earning 60th (26.96). Kolbeck earned 26th in the women's 400 freestyle (4:24.60), while Frye earned 43rd in the men's 400 freestyle (4:17.65).
  • Saturday's prelims had back-to-back finishes from Miami swimmers in the men's 200 backstroke, with Blazer placing 32nd (2:13.68) and Miller placing 33rd (2:15.38). Also in the day, Rinker placed 32nd in the women's 200 backstroke (2:25.89) and Kolbeck placed 51st in the women's 100 freestyle (58.94).

The full RedHawks swimming and diving team return to action with a co-ed visit to Ball State on Saturday, Jan. 21. Start time is set for 12 p.m.
