In partnership with the Walking Wise foundation, Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools will be co-hosting a Human Trafficking Prevention educational and awareness workshop on February 22, 2023, at Eastland Career Center.

Eastland-Fairfield has partnered with Walking Wise, a recently-founded organization dedicated to educating families and communities about the dangers, risk factors, and prevention methods that help battle worldwide human and child sex trafficking. The partnership is a continued promise to help educate students, families, and our communities about the indicators, impact, and dangers of human trafficking in order to protect and serve our children.

The event will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the Engineering Technologies Center on the campus of Eastland Career Center in Groveport. It is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will last approximately one hour. Karla Highman, the founder of Walking Wise, will guide a community conversation that will provide education and resources to help prevent and serve victims of human and child trafficking.

The event is open to the public and is available at no cost. Registration is recommended so we may properly accommodate our guests.

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in the United States of America and is dedicated to raising awareness about human trafficking and educating the public about how to identify and prevent this crime. There are estimated to be more than 24.9 million people — adults and children — subjected to human trafficking around the world, including in the United States (U.S. Department of State). As of June 2022, Ohio ranks 4th in the nation for the highest rates of human trafficking (Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, Interview July 2022).
