State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) has announced the release of $10 million by the Ohio Controlling Board for roadwork improvements to support the Intel project in Licking County. The funds aim to relieve the burden on local taxpayers and prepare for the significant impact that Intel's presence will have on the county.
Schaffer expressed his commitment to addressing the increased traffic burden caused by the Intel project. He said, "Intel's presence in Licking County will be significant, and we must prepare to handle the increased traffic burden." Schaffer also highlighted the collaborative effort involved in securing the funds, stating, "I was proud to work with the Licking County Commissioners and Representative Thad Claggett to secure funds for these critical road improvements in our state budget bill."
The $10 million released will be allocated to several key areas. First, it will support the improvement of 2.4 miles on County Line Road from State Route 37 to Duncan Plains. Additionally, an additional 2.4 miles on Duncan Plains from County Line Road to U.S. Route 62 will be improved, connecting the two planned intersection enhancements and providing better access to the north in Delaware County.
Furthermore, the funds will also be used for research and planning for a series of projects aimed at improving local roads impacted by the Intel project. Studies will be conducted to assess the specific projects and the impact of future traffic on these road improvement initiatives.
Schaffer and his colleagues have shown their commitment to supporting local road improvements near the Intel project by voting to appropriate a total of $90 million. This investment demonstrates the importance of infrastructure development to accommodate the growth and economic impact that major projects like Intel can bring to the region.
The release of these critical funds for roadwork improvements signifies a significant step forward in preparing Licking County and its surrounding areas for the anticipated impact of the Intel project. Through collaboration and strategic planning, Ohio is taking proactive measures to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the efficient functioning of the transportation network.
