State Senator Tim Schaffer has announced the release of over $70 million for projects in Licking County, Ohio. The funds were approved by the Ohio Controlling Board and include significant investments in agricultural infrastructure and local amenities.
The largest portion, $65,655,221.68, is allocated for constructing a new Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at the Ohio Department of Agriculture campus in Reynoldsburg. This facility will enhance biosecurity and biosafety while expanding testing capabilities. "I've been proud to support funding for projects that will benefit our farmers and all Ohioans," said Schaffer. "The funds released today will make a generational impact on our agricultural industry, giving our farmers more tools to succeed."
Additional allocations include $467,999.99 for a new pesticide testing system and $300,307.14 for a modern pathology slide scanner at the current laboratory.
Moreover, $4,367,453 has been designated for improvements to the multiuse trail at Blackhand Gorge Nature Preserve. The project aims to reinforce the riverbank at three locations to maintain accessibility. "Blackhand Gorge is a beautiful gem in Licking County with a rich history," Schaffer stated. "This investment will ensure this amazing place stays accessible to residents and visitors for years to come."
