State Senator Tim Schaffer | The Ohio Senate
State Senator Tim Schaffer has introduced a series of bills aimed at benefiting Ohio and its residents. According to Schaffer, the proposed legislation will assist in building strong families and maintaining community safety.
One of the bills, Senate Bill 32, co-sponsored by Senators Schaffer and Reynolds, proposes the establishment of the Child Care Cred program. This initiative is designed to create a cost-sharing model that would help parents join the workforce while ensuring access to quality child care. "It is critical we support our families as they seek to be part of Ohio's strong workforce, and this program will get us started down a path for success," stated Schaffer.
Senate Bill 50 seeks to provide more flexible work schedules for 14- and 15-year-olds during the school year, allowing them to work between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., with parental or guardian approval alongside school officials' consent. The bill aims to equip young people with skills that will enhance their future prospects.
Senate Bill 51 introduces legislative oversight on voluntary federal unemployment compensation programs. The bill emphasizes keeping government accountable regarding financial obligations: "It's essential the legislature, which has the power of the purse, is involved in making sure we keep government accountable to you," said Schaffer.
Another proposal honors Congressman Dave Hobson by designating parts of U.S. Route 33 in Fairfield County and Interstate 70 after him through Senate Bill 52. According to Schaffer, "The Congressman was a dear friend and mentor who deserves recognition for his contributions."
Senate Bill 53 mandates offenders pay for damages from riots or vandalism while preventing officials from limiting law enforcement actions against such acts: "It is simply common sense that people who damage property should pay for its repair," noted Schaffer.
Aimed at enhancing consumer protection against subpar contractors, Senate Bill 54 establishes a voluntary certification program for residential contractors: "This idea came to my office through reports of problems with contractors that nearly resulted in severe or deadly consequences."
Finally, Senate Bill 59 focuses on supporting Second Amendment rights by establishing a sales tax exemption for firearms and ammunition while providing tax credits for manufacturers expanding within Ohio: "I am proud to be joint sponsoring this bill with Senator Al Cutrona,” said Schaffer.
