Fairfield County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.
There continues to be significant rain forecast this week that could impact Lake Wateree lake levels. Duke Energy meteorology and the National Weather Service have forecast 2-4 inches of rain through Thursday evening. Tropical Storm Eta could bring additional rainfall to the area over the weekend. The Wateree hydro station has a turbine in a scheduled outage and the other four turbines are generating in an attempt to lower the lake level.
The following message has been updated on the web:
The Catawba River Basin is experiencing increased inflows due to the recent rainfall. Additional rainfall will cause higher lake levels. Duke Energy is moving water through the river system. Because rainfall amounts can be unpredictable, it is difficult to estimate peak lake levels until the rain event has concluded. Please pay close attention to changing weather conditions and take any necessary precautions. Updates will be provided as conditions change. Lake level information is available at duke-energy.com/lakes, by calling 800-829-5253 and via the Duke Energy Lake View mobile app.
