State Senator Tim Schaffer | The Ohio Senate
State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) has expressed support for the Ohio Senate's decision to override Governor DeWine's veto on property tax reform. The move follows the passage of House Bill 96, known as the Operating Budget, from which Governor DeWine vetoed 67 sections. One of these sections included a restriction on subdivisions from pursuing certain types of levies, such as replacement and substitute emergency levies.
“I proudly voted to bring property tax relief to my constituents,” Schaffer said. “The people of Ohio deserve property tax reform, and this veto override is the first major step toward this reform.”
Schaffer stated that limiting confusing levies would give voters more input and control in efforts to provide property tax relief for families and seniors at risk of losing their homes. “The restriction of confusing levies will allow for more voter input and control on providing much needed property tax relief to Ohio’s hard-working families and seniors on the brink of losing their homes,” he said. “This override makes great strides toward addressing unchecked and out of control increases in property taxes.”
Levies that are already in place or scheduled for the November 2025 ballot will not be impacted by this new restriction.
